BOEDO EDICIONES is a small family printmaking studio run by Julián Gatto, with the help of his wife, Mercedes, under the strict supervision of their one-year old daughter Río, CEO and President.
We do small print runs using a printing technique known as mokuhanga, a kind of water-based woodblock printing developed in Japan. We use artisanal washi paper, hand-grinded pigments, and all work is printed by hand, using a flat disc called baren.
We collaborate with brands and artists whose work fits our beliefs and scale, and we are open to commissions as well. Feel free to contact us!
Our editions are made of numbered, original artworks, and as such, all prints vary, which is not only expected but part of the beauty of this technique. Our editions tend to be very small (usually around 30 prints), and if we decide to re-edit a design, we do it by incorporating a major change to make it distinguishable from its first edition. If there is a design you want that is no longer in print, you can add yourself to its waiting list; if enough people ask for it, we will re-edit it.

Is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores paper-based media and wonders how to tell the stories of things. As an artist, he has shown work that combines installation, drawing, and film in galleries and museums. He first learned mokuhanga from master printer Yasu Shibata while doing his BFA at Cooper Union in NYC. Many years later, he would work with him again at Pace Prints.
A few years ago, Julián started going on bikepacking trips and has since become a bicycle enthusiast and an amateur frame builder. His love of traveling while being your own engine, landscape, drawing, and printing is at the heart of his desire to start BOEDO.

Mercedes is an anthropologist, writer, and educator with a basic understanding of scheduling and spreadsheets born of decades spent as a researcher. She is lending a hand with production tasks such as figuring out our workflow, setting up collabs, and fine-tuning our calendar, and creative tasks such as translating our images into beautiful words.
